Ultrasound (US) Update

I am SO STINKIN' TIRED from my work day (it's 930 pm and I just finished documentation!) but I promised an update and an update you will get! I'll show the pics first then tell y'all what Dr. P said.

IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU ARE AN EXPERT US READER AND CAN TELL FROM THESE PICS THE GENDER OF BABY BOO, I WILL BE DEVISTATED IF ANYONE, INCLUDING ME, FINDS OUT. THANKS!

You are looking at Baby Boo's face. It looks like it has a pointy chin like me and my sisters :) The arms/hands aren't very clear in this picture because the doctor said Baby Boo was jumping around a lot!

Another pic featuring Baby Boo's face...but, this time, you can see its little hand...and its mouth is open :)

A little footsie! All 5 toes present!!!

This was such an emotional experience. I cried the entire time (in a good way, of course). Every night/morning, before my appointments, I get so paranoid that my little baby isn't going to be in there. It was so cool to see all most of its parts! The doctor showed us the brain and said there are no signs of spina bifida. He then looked at the heart and it showed all chambers and no signs of defects. He measured the femur and said the baby is the right size for 18 weeks.

I asked Dr. P what position the baby was in and he said Baby Boo was all over the place...jumping and bouncing around (gets that from mom)! I could see the babes making a sucking motion with its mouth but it didn't have a thumb in it. At the very end of the US, Baby Boo fell asleep! The doctor poked around on my stomach to wake it up but it kept sleeping (gets that from dad)!

I have no idea what the gender is but I've noticed myself saying he/his a lot. I'm not sure if that's a motherly instinct or just because it's a general term. Who knows?! Either way, this was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced!

I Look at My Belly and Think...

  • Holy Crap. You have blown up in the matter of a day...ONE DAY!

  • Because of you, I'm now using my hair ties to make my pants more comfy. They still fit me, but you are making them less comfortable.

  • I can't believe you are getting bigger because you have a baby inside of you...but I am thankful that is the reason.

  • You were feeling really bloated all the time, now you feel tight. I hope that's normal.

Baby Boo: 18 weeks

Baby Boo this week:

Sweet potato?! Ick! Anyway...

Thebump.com says Baby Boo is moving around like crazy in there! But I don't feel it yet :-( They also say this is the time to stop sleeping on your back. I've noticed that being on my back feels a little weird and slightly uncomfortable. Honestly, sleeping in general has been tough.

I'm still in my regular clothes!

Overall, I'm feeling great. The weather has been a little cooler and I'm still exercising! This week, I've managed to run a 5k, do two Zumba classes, and survive a 2 hour Hip Hop Fitness class! Go me and Baby Boo!

Birth classes are going well, and Mr. Boo and I are learning a lot. I'm fulfilling my protein requirements :-) This week, our instructor told us a little about placenta encapsulation. Believe it or not, I'm planning to research it more and I might do it!

Things to look forward to this next week:
1) Lake Erie trip with friends
2) Ultrasound on Tuesday!!! (Again, we will not find out the sex)

Protein is For the Birds

In case you didn't already know, Mr. Boo and I are taking a 12 week course about The Bradley Method of child birth. It's supposed to help prepare us for a natural child birth experience. In a previous life (meaning, the part of my life in which I couldn't stand the thought of kids and pregnancy), I just knew that I wouldn't be able to give birth without drugs..."Give me all the drugs you can give me!" is what I planned to say. Since becoming preggo, I feel it to be very important to do all that I can not to put drugs into my body.

With all the blabbing aside, this past week, in class, we talked about nutrition. Part of our homework for the week included keeping track of our food intake, specifically the amount of protein. Our instructor wants us to eat 80 grams of protein per day. The initial thought seemed impossible! I quickly found out that it's very possible but that it would make me feel like a fatty some days. I feel like I'm eating ALL DAY LONG!

I've exceeded my 80 gram goal 3 of the 4 days...but yesterday was a challenge. My hubby has been acting as the protein police and noticed that I was WAY under at the end of yesterday (it was 830 p.m. and I had only eaten 48 grams). I was SO FULL and felt like I couldn't fit anything else in my body...didn't matter. Mr. Boo made me drink this disgusting concoction he came up with in which he put protein powder so that I could get 30 more grams. It was so barf-worthy that I had to take it in shots and drink water in between each "shot." I might have to start lying to him about my protein intake :)

The Color Run...Yes, I'm Still Running

I don't think pregnancy is limiting my physical activity as much nowadays as this frickin' heat! It has been so intense outside!

Baby Boo and I were solo this morning at The Color Run. Mr. Boo had volleyball so Baby and I took the journey to downtown Columbus for some running fun! Unfortunately, since I didn't have my picture taker with me, I could only do Instagram selfies.

What I did bring was a waterproof disposable camera from our Jamaica trip in January. It still had a few pics left in it. I was afraid to take my phone with me on the run because I didn't really know what to expect!
It was so stinkin' humid outside so I was crazy sweating the entire time...BUT...I was able to run the whole thing. The only time I walked was when we went through the color blast areas where I couldn't seem to get around people.

Blue, Orange, Yellow, and Pink!!!

I'm hoping to have some better shots when I get the pictures developed. I took a pic in each color blast area :)

Next Race: The Dog Jog on August 18th! I'm excited about this one because I get to run with Angel and Mr. Boo is running with Izzie! YAY!

Baby Boo: 17 Weeks

When I look at my weekly updates, I wonder who decides which food item is comparable to the baby's size. Anyway, this is what those people say this week:

This week, Thebump.com tells  me not to freak out about the numbers on the scale. Lucky for me, I'm not looking at the scale! If Dr. P is concerned, he'll tell me. I'm not gonna lie, though. This is the first week I can remember feeling like a blob. The crazy heat/humidity has taken a toll on me this week as well. I had a breakdown yesterday and just balled my eyes out.

I'm still able to workout but the heat has affected it this week. I was able to run 32 minutes on Saturday and I did and hour of Hip Hop Fitness on Monday.

Mr. Boo and I began childbirth classes last week. We have class every Wednesday night for 12 weeks. I'm really excited to learn about labor and childbirth so that I can be as prepared as possible! I know that everyone has a different experience but I'm going to do what I can to learn the basics.

Just a little update on THIS post about my baby shower(s) situation. Joan, one of my mothers-in-law, is going to join forces with my friends, Jenny and Lindsay, to plan a baby shower for my friends.

Looking forward to: feeling Baby Boo kick and our ultrasound on July 30th!

Baby Boo: 16 Weeks

(That's an avocado, by the way...I have an avocado in my belly)

Thebump.com said that Baby Boo can now hear my voice. I'm pretty sure I said "$h!t" yesterday. Does it count if I whisper?! It also said I might be able to feel the baby move any day now! FUH-REAKY!!!

I've been feeling great the last couple of weeks. I might have mentioned that I was slacking a little with my running last week because of the intense stress at work. I got back into the grind of things and had an amazing run this past Saturday and Monday! They were only about 30 minutes long but I felt great!

I had my 16 week appointment on Tuesday and it went well. Baby Boo's heart rate is 147 bpm and the doctor measured my belly for the first time. Dr. P showed me how large my belly should get at 40 weeks. I still have a LONG way to go! It's gonna by HUGE!

I was a little worried about what my weight might be. As I posted HERE, I've decided not to weigh myself between doctor appointments. I weighed in at 121 lbs. which is totally normal! YAY! My regular weight range, pre-pregnancy, was anywhere between 114-117 lbs.

Last story: Mr. Boo and I were at the girls' agility class last night and I noticed I had horrible posture. I'm usually very aware of my posture. I told Mr. Boo that it must be my new big boobs weighing me down :)
P.S. They are not that much bigger...I'm still wearing the same bras!

Three Moms and a Pregnancy

I'm very blessed to have an awesome mom and two awesome mothers-in-law. I'm gonna take a moment to show them off:
My mom

Joan, Jimmy's Step Mom

Deb, Jimmy's Mom

When I found out I was pregnant, one of my first thoughts was "How am I going to make all of the mothers feel special?!" I probably talk to my mom more about it because she is 5 1/2 hours away and we talk on the phone often so the topic always comes up. Plus, since she is far away, I want her to feel connected to the situation as much as possible.

Most recently, the topic of baby showers has come about. I knew that Deb would throw a shower involving her side of the family because she has thrown wedding and baby showers for both Amy and me in the past. That left my mom and Joan...

I thought, since my mom is in WV, she might not be able to travel to Columbus for a shower. I thought a good idea might be for her to throw one involving our family in WV. I brought the idea to her and she was ecstatic! I'm glad that part worked out :) And that leaves Joan...

Joan loves to host/plan get-togethers...and she's really good at it! She threw me a wedding shower and it was awesome! I knew that I would have to get her involved in planning a baby shower. As soon as I told my friend, Jenny, I was preggo, she offered to help plan a shower involving my friends. As the weeks have passed, my friend, Lindsay, got in on it as well. My thought is that I get Joan hooked up with Jenny and Lindsay to help with that shower. Hopefully this plan works out without being stressful on anyone!

I'm feeling so blessed to have people who care this much!

Baby Boo: 15 Weeks

Baby Boo is the size of a "navel orange."

Thebump.com says the little one is squirming a lot but I don't feel anything yet! I'm still taking bump pics every Friday morning. I think I'll be brave and share one with you. I know the whole world doesn't look at my blog so I won't be sharing this one on Facebook or anything! Here's a 10 week vs. 15 week picture:

I'm starting to round out a little bit! This whole process is so insane to me!

One of my goals during this pregnancy is to do as much as I can in the beginning so that I'll have less to do when I don't feel like doing it! With that being said, Mr. Boo and I put the crib together yesterday! My parents were gracious enough to make this purchase for us. They bought it in black (like we wanted) even though my mom thought it was a weird choice :) Here is the finished product:

Yes, that is a Razorback sign in the background. I promise it's not part of the baby room décor...although it should be :) Woo Pig Sooie! (Is it football season yet?!)

I need to give another shout out to my sister-in-law, Amy. I was researching infant car seats and strollers and found out that Amy and Chris are wanting to sell theirs for a great price! I'm so thankful for all of the money that I'm able to save. The more I save now, the longer I get to stay home with Baby Boo before returning to work!
Speaking of work, I had to get another job because I was cut to part time (this story is full of a lot more drama but those closest to me already know that part so I won't share it publicly). I start my new full time job next Thursday and, here's the good news....
I might be getting a little bit of pay during maternity leave!!!!
It's not some insane amount but it's better than zero and I'm so thankful for this turn of events.
