Dresser Color and My First Belly Pic

After searching google images and pinterest, I found this dresser:

 

I LOVED the color when I saw it...very apple-like. After some research, I found that it came from THIS blog. The color is by Behr and it's called Happy Camper. For now, I'm keeping the knobs black. Thank you Mom and Steve for doing this for me!

 

So...you might be expecting to actually see my first belly picture. Don't hold your breath. There's not a huge difference...mostly bloating! Plus, I took it bare belly for my future reference. I wasn't sure which week to even start taking pictures.

Baby Boo: 10 weeks,,,The Size of a Prune?!

Now that I'm sharing, I'll share with you that the first few weeks have been rough so far. I'm the laziest I've ever been! I'm staying positive because I know this part of it will pass...hopefully :) For the first time yesterday, my abdomen actually looked pregnant. I thought I was crazy! Surely it can't feel this way already?! Then I read my daily tidbit on thebump.com. It said that it's very possible to start seeing changes at this point...not huge ones but little ones. I noticed that the bottom of my abdomen, an inch or two below my belly button, is a little rounder. YIKES! I assumed it was bloating but I guess things are starting to change...weird.

 

What has happened so far/decisions we've made:

 

-I found out I WON'T GET ANY paid maternity leave/short term disability...we've checked all options. Therefore, we have to do anything we can to save money the next 7 months. Since Mr. Boo's an amazing saver (of money) and since The Lord is with us, I am confident that we will save enough for me to have at least 8 weeks off with Baby Boo.

 

-We don't plan on finding out the sex! OMG. Can I do it?! My mom and Jimmy's mom aren't fans of that decision but they are still incredibly excited that we're having a little one. The reason we aren't finding out: If it's a boy, Mr. Boo said it has to be 'James Robert Davis III'...Mr. Boo's a Jr. so I totally respect that request. After that decision, I thought "What's the fun if we know we are having a boy and know that we have to name it a certain name?" I'd rather the sex be a surprise so we can have fun talking about what it might be :)

 

-I have a nursery theme in mind. I will save some money converting my office furniture into usable furniture for the nursery. My mom called me yesterday and said she and Steve would like to buy us a crib (the furniture will be black). Anyway, as a child, I was obsessed with the book "The Giving Tree." I just love it! I thought it would be a perfect unisex theme for the nursery! Trees, apples, green, red...I can't wait!

My mom said she has a dresser I can have:

She (and Steve) are going to paint it for me...I just have to decide on the color. I was thinking some shade of green with red (or even apple) knobs! Then my mom sent me this pic:

This made me laugh so hard! Crazy lady!

 



The Davis Date Jars

First of all, I want to give credit where credit is due. The Davis Date Jar idea came from this blog. Jimmy and I go on dates all of the time but our dates are typically the same...usually it's dinner, maybe a movie, occasionally something out of the ordinary. I saw this blog on pinterest and thought the idea was awesome. So...I decided to put my own little twist on it.

I took regular ol' index cards and cut them in half (because I don't like plain white cards, I used colored ones). I wrote one of the ideas from her list on each half-card. I made up a few on my own or edited her ideas to things we could do it Columbus. I then separated the ideas into two groups: stay-at-home dates and going-out dates. I took two mason jars (from last summer's hillbilly party :)) and put the cards in them:

All we have to do is decide if we want to go out or stay in then draw a surprise date from the appropriate jar...let the fun begin!



My New Year = Taking Action

I wasn't going to make a New Year's Resolution because I just don't get into that whole thing but Pastor Rich inspired me to think of one. Some of you know that Jimmy has been working on getting his Masters in Accounting and moving to the "next level" in his career. He has been applying for different jobs for at least a year and has had no luck getting interviews for accounting jobs. About 3 or 4 months ago, he decided to start applying for sales positions at his current company which means we would have to move. He has received a lot of positive comments about his work performance and his boss said he had a really good chance of getting one of the sales positions. So far, Jimmy has had two interviews for one specific position.

As this process has gone on, I've become lazy. I've been living in the future of what might happen if he did get one of these jobs. I've been going crazy looking up real estate in these cities, etc. I've stopped doing anything with our new home just in case we move in the future. I've been rediculous about the whole thing. Therefore, my resolution is to LIVE IN THE PRESENT and not in the future of what may or may not happen. This inspired me to do a couple of projects today.

First, I took two of our wedding pics and bought frames for them:

I stole this next project idea from Pinterest. A great way to organize your scarves with shower hooks and a hanger!



During this process, I found out I have way too many scarves! But I love them so much!!!

Halloween Cookie Adventure

My mom sent me some Halloween cookie cutters in the mail...a ghost, a cat, and a pumpkin:

The humerous part of all of this is that I don't bake things! But I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try to make some cookies from scratch. They ended up tasting like the yummy frosted ones from the store :) I used a recipe from my Betty Crocker cook book and bought my frosting and sprinkles from the store. Here they are straight out of the oven:

I figured out that I wasn't a fan of the decorating part so I didn't do my best work...I got lazy! Here is the finished product:

Painting adventure in our new crib...

I'm gonna make this short and sweet since Jimmy and I are insanely busy and we are preparing to have people over for the first time on Saturday. Please pray for our sanity....this "getting-the-house-together" thing is VERY overwhelming and I'm probably not enjoying it as much as I should. I'm really stressing out about having things ready for people to come over...BLAH!

Week 1 of homeownership...Is that a word?

Jimmy and I closed on our first home
November 23rd...we are so excited!!!
It's located in Gahanna, OH (east side
of Columbus) and sits on a corner
lot...3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths.

It's a split level home with this layout:
The top floor has the three bedrooms and full bath...two of the bedrooms have hardwood floor and the third has carpet (with pink and orange walls that we will paint!); One of those rooms will be an office/prayer room (Jimmy's great idea)...

The main floor has the living room and the kitchen. The living room also has hardwood. We ordered the love seat and chair that match our current couch and we're getting a sweet 42" LG TV so that we may enjoy some sports, The Office, 16 and Pregnant, Dog the Bounty Hunter, etc. :) We are making a little change in the kitchen. In the pic above, you may notice that the white cabinets have blue on them. I wasn't a fan of that because it made the blue countertops really pop out...so we are painting the cabinets all white...we will eventually get new countertops. Finally, attached to the kitchen is a 2 car garage and a sweet patio that goes to the back yard. I'll post another blog soon with a picture of the patio.

On the bottom floor is a half bath, utility room with great storage space, and a finished basement! The basement will have Jimmy's drum set and eventually a movie/hangout room. This will be the last area we fix up because we'll have to buy a another TV, more furniture, etc. One of our goals is to host lots of get-togethers...Jimmy loves to entertain so hopefully it will be a great home for family and friends!

Here's a quick story about our first couple of adventures as homeowners:


Saturday night, we went to the house to start painting our cabinets. We thought that the paint we were using had primer in it but quickly found out it didn't because it wasn't even close to covering up that blue after two coats of paint...so, basically, we wasted our time (except for the fact that the radio was playing some sweet songs from the 90's!).


We went back the next day (with primer) and did the job the right way....that was followed by 6 hours of raking and bagging leaves! BLAH! Honestly, I was totally cool with raking...it was actually a fun little workout...but the bagging sucked super bad!!! It was so annoying! We ended up with 26 bags of leaves! Jimmy and I now consider ourselves professional leaf people! We quickly made the decision that we would pay a kid in the neighborhood to do our leaves next year!
