Mr. Boo Made Me Laugh

On our way home from the gym today, my boo said to me: "You should try to qualify for Boston and make that your long term goal." Isn't he funny?!!!! I told him that qualifying would be impossible extremely hard for me. I looked up the qualifying time for my age group (18-34) and it is 3:35:00! OMG! I'd have to be in my 60's to qualify with my best time.

****************************

Fast forward a few hours from that conversation:
I just did the unthinkable. Remember the "famous quote" from THIS post? As of 5:45 on April 13, 2013, I AM "doing this $#!+ again!" I officially just changed my half marathon registration to a full marathon! After last year's experience, I think I'll be able to train smarter (is that even grammatically correct?!). If I start core and hip/lower extremity strengthening NOW, I should be able to avoid the injuries I dealt with last summer. I'm also going to schedule a half marathon halfway through my training so that I'll have a long race under my belt.

I'm so insanely excited and will accept all intercessory prayers through this process!

It's Almost Our Anniversary Dinner

Before I started work this morning, I decided I wanted to make a special dinner for Mr. Boo. Our anniversary is next week on Wednesday! We stay so busy during the week, I knew I wouldn't be able to make a special dinner that day. Here's the menu:

Fried Pork Chops and Mashed Potatoes

The potatoes were delish! They had garlic, bacon, and chives. You can find the recipe HERE. If you know me, you know there's a dessert:

I call it "Dirt Dessert Pie." It's the pie version of my mom's dirt dessert recipe. I used a chocolate pie crust and filled it with a mixture of chocolate pudding, whipped cream, and oreo minis. I then topped it with the remaining whipped creams and oreos. YUMMY!!! I'm sure it will take us only 36 hours to eat the whole thing :)

Fatigue + Randoms

I'm tired...not sleepy but my body is tired! Today will be my first rest day of the week and it feels well deserved. Between Hip Hop on Monday, tennis on Tuesday, tempo run on Wednesday and 4 miles yesterday, I wanna get in a hot tub! I think it was the tennis that got me.

Random #1: I made meatballs for the FIRST TIME EVER using THIS recipe. I cut the recipe in half since it was just Mr. Boo and me.

Random #2: Our anniversary is next week! 3 years!!!

Random #3: Mr. Boo and I have an obsession with Jamaica...particularly the island cocktails. For our anniversary, we are going downtown to have drinks at this Caribbean style restaurant/bar. Yeah, mon!!

Finally, Random #4: I'm driving to WV after work next Friday (where my parents live) because my other sister, Ashley, is visiting with her two little ones!!! I get to meet my youngest niece who was born last year :)

I Must Be Trippin'

What did I do last night? I researched marathons (FULL MARATHONS) that maybe I could potentially do a few weeks after my half marathon...SERIOUSLY?!

I will never forget these famous words (famous only to me and the guy running beside me who overheard me) from my last marathon:
"I'm never doing this $#!+ again!"

I thought those words were so true at the time. The guy said back to me "I said the same thing after my first marathon and I've done 4 or 5 since then." My next thought? "Shut up, dude."

I feel like each year that goes by, I get more and more excited about running. When I read these running blogs (MilePosts, SkinnyRunner, and HungryRunnerGirl), it gets me so excited about training and racing!!!

I haven't had a chance to talk to Mr. Boo about my latest thought...and I'm still working out the details of what this may mean in regards to finances and training. My initial thought is to run the St. Jude Memphis marathon the first weekend in December. I did the half marathon back in 2006.
See how red my face is?! It was SO COLD that day! My half marathon PR is from this race (1:57).

Something else I'm looking into with regards to this topic is the training. I am running the Cbus Half on October 20th which means the Memphis race would be just 7 weeks later. I'm guessing I'd have to begin full marathon training before I even do my half marathon and just incorporate that race into my training.

If anyone has any advice regarding the training part, PLEASE let me know!!!

Welcome to Gahanna...

Today's workout: 30 minute tempo run. I decided to increase my speed to see if my knee could handle it. After 5 min. at a 10:00 pace, I increased to my normal tempo pace of 9:13. I did this for 5 minutes to make sure my knee was ok. Since I had no issues, I increased to an 8:57 pace for 15 minutes. During that time period, the first "Song of the Run" candidate came on:

"Welcome to Atlanta." Except, to keep me excited, I sang it as "Welcome to Gahanna where the playas play and we ride on them thangs like everyday..." Great song.

Towards the end of that 15 min. segment, the second candidate came on:

"Let me clear my throat." If you know the song, you are singing it right now. All I could think about is the hip hop fitness routine. It's not easy to dance and run at the same time...especially on a treadmill. Instead, I had to resort to lip-rapping. I'm 99% sure people think I'm weird when I run.

So, who won song of the run?

Hip Hop Fitness Announcement + Randoms

Random #1: I have a new mug and, YES, I'm excited about it! It makes coffee drinking more fun! For future reference, if you ever buy me a mug, make sure it's cute :)

Random #2: One of the running blogs I read is MilePosts. In one of her recent posts, she talked about Kind products. I just had to check it out. I bought a bag of the healthy grains (peanut butter) and 2 different bars.
All three are delish!

Random #3: I'm reading a book. I RARELY read books. My life group is getting ready to read this book and I am in charge of leading the first session which covers Hosea and Joel. I'm learning so much by reading this!

Random #4: I've switched to gummy vitamins! I was getting sick every time I would take my multi-vitamin and my friends gave me some great advice.

Final Random: Izzie protects her frisbee by putting her paw on it so no one can take it. It's hilarious to me.

We were informed at last night's session that the next two Mondays will be TWO HOUR SESSIONS!!! I love two hours sessions cuz they kick my butt! SWEAT, SWEAT, SWEAT!!!
